Blue Days, Black Nights is a dark urban fantasy soap opera. It is set in the distant aftermath of a teen adventure story that went horribly wrong, resulting in a magical calamity that exposed the existence of psychic powers to the world. In the aftermath, society cracked down on magic, forcing so-called “involuntary psychics” to suppress their powers with a drug called rexupresine. Now dysfunctional adults in their thirties, the former trio are reunited when they find themselves in opposing factions in a struggle to acquire magical artefacts with the power to rewrite history.

About the Format

BDBN is written in the style of chat-based roleplay, also known as ICC (In-Character Chat). Traditionally, ICC is a play-by-post RP format where each player is responsible for the actions of their character, and the events are entirely improvised. BDBN began as an ICC in 2018-2019. Since then, it has evolved into its current form, a hybrid longform web serial which remains a love letter to the ICC format.
